Kings Dominion Height Requirements: Every Ride Listed

Knowing the height cutoffs before you arrive saves a lot of frustration at the gate. Kings Dominion uses measuring sticks at individual ride entrances. Shoes count toward your height. Hats and hair accessories do not. If a child is borderline, have them measured at Guest Services near the front entrance before committing to a plan for the day.

The park operates a Rider Swap program (sometimes called Child Swap) at every ride with a height requirement. One adult rides while the other waits with the child, then they switch without rejoining the full queue.

The Key Thresholds

Heights fall into four main brackets at Kings Dominion:

Roller Coasters

| Ride | Height Requirement | Notes |

|------|-------------------|-------|

| Rapterra | 48" | World's tallest and longest launched wing coaster; opened 2025 |

| Pantherian (formerly Intimidator 305) | 54" | Also has a maximum height of 78"; most intense ride in park |

| Twisted Timbers | 48" | Hybrid RMC coaster; multiple inversions |

| Dominator | 54" | Floorless coaster; also max 78" |

| Backlot Stunt Coaster | 48" | Family-accessible launched coaster |

| Grizzly | 42" | Classic wooden coaster in back of park |

| Racer 75 | 42" | Twin racing wooden coasters; good starter coaster |

| Anaconda | 48" | Arrow looper over the lake |

| Reptilian | 48" | Rare bobsled-style coaster; one of 8 worldwide |

| Avalanche | 42" | Bobsled-style coaster, great for families |

| Great Pumpkin Coaster | 36" | Planet Snoopy; excellent first coaster |

| Woodstock Express | 36" | Planet Snoopy; smooth junior coaster |

Thrill Rides

| Ride | Height Requirement | Notes |

|------|-------------------|-------|

| Drop Tower | 52" | 272-foot gyro drop tower |

| Delirium | 48" | Giant swinging pendulum ride |

| Xtreme SkyFlyer | 48" | Skydiving free fall swing |

| Windseeker | 48" | 301-foot swing tower |

| Volcano: Blast Zone (if operating) | Check at gate | Status varies by season |

Family and Water Rides

| Ride | Height Requirement | Notes |

|------|-------------------|-------|

| White Water Canyon | 42" | Six-person raft ride; everyone gets wet |

| Shenandoah Lumber Co. | 42" | Log flume; milder splash |

| Boo Blasters on Boo Hill | Any height with adult | Dark ride shooter; great for all ages |

| Carousel | Any height | Classic Dentzel carousel |

| Old Dominion train | Any height | Relaxing circuit around part of the park |

| Eiffel Tower observation deck | Any height | Great views; free with admission |

Planet Snoopy: Rides With No Height Requirement (with adult)

Children 36 inches and taller can ride certain Planet Snoopy rides unaccompanied. Check the signage at each ride entrance, as the cutoffs differ.

Soak City Water Park

Most slide towers at Soak City have minimum heights of 42" to 48" for the most intense slides. The Coconut Shores area and the wave pool have no height minimum. The lazy river is open to all ages with an adult.

Practical Notes

If you have a child hovering right at 48", bring supportive sneakers instead of flip-flops — it makes a measurable difference. The park will not re-measure at a different ride if a guest is turned away once, so it's worth being accurate at the start of the day rather than discovering a miss mid-queue.

For children who don't yet meet the 48" threshold, Planet Snoopy plus Grizzly, Racer 75, White Water Canyon, Avalanche, and Boo Blasters still make for a full, solid day.
