Why Height Requirements Matter at Canobie Lake Park
Canobie Lake Park posts height restriction signs at every ride entrance and staff measure kids at the gate when there's any question. There is no grace zone. If your child is one inch under the minimum, they are not riding. Knowing this before you arrive saves tears and wasted time.
The park publishes a combined Attractions Guide PDF on their website and maintains a dedicated Height Restrictions page at canobie.com/explore/height-restrictions/. Requirements can change when rides are refurbished, so always cross-check with the official page before your visit.
Thrill Rides — 48 Inches and Up
These are the rides that require at least 48 inches to ride alone. Younger kids or shorter companions cannot board even with an adult.
- Yankee Cannonball — 48" minimum. The park's signature 1930 wooden coaster. Classic out-and-back layout, serious airtime on the return run. This line moves slowly.
- Untamed — 48" minimum. A Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter with a 97-degree beyond-vertical drop and three inversions including a vertical loop and heartline roll. The most intense ride in the park.
- Canobie 500 — 48" minimum to drive solo. The go-kart oval where drivers must meet the height bar to take the wheel.
- Xtreme Frisbee — 52" minimum. A Huss Giant Frisbee that swings riders up to roughly 60 feet. Long waits from 11am to 1pm — ride at opening or late afternoon.
- Wave Blaster — 54" minimum, 77" maximum. The park's stand-up hydraulic bungee ride. Also has a maximum height limit, so taller adults should check before queuing.
- Skater — 48" minimum to ride alone, 42" minimum with a supervising companion who is 48" or taller.
Family Rides — Mixed Requirements
These rides accommodate a range of heights but some still have minimums:
- Castaway Island Water Park — Tall Dark Green Slides — 40" minimum
- Castaway Island Water Park — Rain Fortress — 48" minimum
- Boston Harbor Patrol — 42" minimum; riders under 48" must ride with a supervising companion who is at least 48"
- Time Winder — Riders between 42" and 48" must ride with a supervising companion. Riders 48" and over may ride alone.
- Da Vinci's Dream — Giant Wave Swinger over the lake. Check the ride sign; companions accompany shorter riders.
- Policy Pond Flume — The log flume. Check posted signage; younger riders typically need a companion.
- Haunted Mansion — Dark ride generally open to most ages; check signage for companion requirements for very small children.
- Mine of Lost Souls — Dark ride with mine/Egypt theme. Generally suitable for most ages; no strict height minimum but supervision recommended for small children.
- Canobie Express Train — No height requirement. Suitable for all ages including infants.
- Blue Heron Boat Cruise — No height requirement. 20-minute pontoon ride on the lake.
- Giant Sky Wheel — No height requirement. 80-foot Ferris wheel, gentle rotation.
Kiddie Rides — No Minimum or Very Low Minimum
These rides are built for the under-48-inch crowd. Older riders are generally not permitted.
- Antique Carousel — 1903 carousel with 46 carved animals. Open to all ages, including very small children with a parent.
- Alpine Swings — Kiddie swing ride. Designed for small children.
- Jump Around — Bouncing car ride for young kids.
- Autobahn — Miniature vehicle ride for kids.
- Junior Sports Cars — Child-operated cars for young solo drivers.
- Kiddieland area rides — Multiple additional flat rides for the under-48-inch set, located in the dedicated Kiddieland section.
What to Do If Your Child Is Borderline
Measure your child the morning of your visit in shoes they will wear at the park. Canobie measures in shoes. Bring a backup plan for kids who are likely to miss the cutoff on specific rides — the Blue Heron Boat Cruise, Canobie Express train, and the carousel are genuinely fun for younger kids who get excluded from bigger rides.
Guest Services at the Main Gate can answer questions about specific rides and companion requirements before you enter the park. Stop there first if you have a child with a disability or unusual physical situation.
