Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park is the oldest theme park in America, and its coaster lineup mixes a world-class wooden headliner with launch coasters, inversion machines, and family credits scattered through Ghost Town, the Boardwalk, and Fiesta Village. This guide ranks them all, with height requirements, seat picks, and timing that reflects how the lines actually behave.
1. GhostRider
The best wooden coaster on the West Coast. A 1998 giant rebuilt by Great Coasters International in 2016, GhostRider runs fast, smooth, and relentless through 4,533 feet of twisting track above Ghost Town. It is also the park's biggest bottleneck: in our tracked wait data it averages over 70 minutes, far beyond anything else at Knott's, so treat it as your first priority of the day.
- Height requirement: 48 inches
- Best seat: back row for sustained airtime
- Best time: rope drop for the short line, last train for the night ride
2. Xcelerator The Ride
A hydraulic launch from 0 to 82 mph in 2.3 seconds, straight up a 205 foot top hat, and done in under a minute. It is the purest adrenaline hit in the park when it runs, and it is famously temperamental, so ride it the moment you see trains cycling.
- Height requirement: 52 inches
- Best seat: front row, the launch wind is the whole point
- Best time: whenever it is open, do not wait for later
3. HangTime
A Gerstlauer Infinity coaster with a 96 degree beyond-vertical drop that pauses at the top and dangles you over the edge. Five inversions follow. Our data shows it averaging around 40 minutes, second only to GhostRider, so it belongs in your first two hours.
- Height requirement: 48 inches
- Best seat: front row for the hang on the drop
- Best time: early morning, then again at night for the light package
4. Silver Bullet
A Bolliger and Mabillard inverted coaster with six inversions swinging over Fiesta Village. Its big trains keep the line honest: it averages only about 17 minutes in our tracking despite its size.
- Height requirement: 54 inches
- Best seat: front row, left side
- Best time: midday, it absorbs crowds better than anything else here
5. MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress
The classic Schwarzkopf flywheel shuttle loop, recently back from a long refurbishment with new theming. Launch, loop, spike, then all of it backwards. Confirm it is operating in the app before you build your day around it.
- Height requirement: 48 inches
- Best seat: back row for the backwards spike
- Best time: early evening
6. Pony Express
A launched family coaster you ride like a horse, straddling the seat. Goofier than it is intense, and better than it has any right to be.
- Height requirement: 48 inches
- Best seat: any, outside positions feel faster
- Best time: before noon, it averages over 20 minutes midday
7. Sierra Sidewinder
A Mack spinning coaster at the park's edge. Fun, but its small trains make it a wait trap: about 27 minutes on average in our data.
- Height requirement: 42 inches with an adult
- Best seat: load unevenly for maximum spin
- Best time: first hour or final hour
8. Coast Rider
A wild mouse with unbanked hairpins above the Boardwalk. Averages 28 minutes for a 90 second ride, the worst wait-to-thrill ratio at Knott's.
- Height requirement: 46 inches
- Best seat: they all ride the same
- Best time: early or skip it entirely
9. Jaguar!
A long, mild family coaster weaving through Fiesta Village and the Montezooma loop. A great first big coaster for kids.
- Height requirement: 48 inches
- Best seat: front for the views
- Best time: midday, the line moves steadily
10. Timberline Twister
The Camp Snoopy starter coaster, for the youngest riders working up the ladder.
- Height requirement: 36 inches with an adult
- Best seat: wherever your kid says
- Best time: whenever Camp Snoopy is calm
