SeaWorld San Antonio Height Requirements: Every Ride Listed
Showing up to a theme park only to find out your kid is two inches too short for the ride they've been talking about all summer is a rough way to start the day. SeaWorld San Antonio has a wide range of rides — from coasters that demand 54 inches to kid zones with no height floor at all. Here's the full breakdown so you can plan before you leave the driveway.
The Complete Height Chart
Thrill Rides (Tallest Requirements)
- Tidal Surge — 48" minimum. The world's tallest and fastest screaming swing, hitting 65 mph at 135 feet. This one's for the coaster crowd, not the family.
- The Steel Eel — 54" minimum. A hypercoaster with a 150-foot drop. The tallest requirement in the park.
- The Great White — 54" minimum. A suspended looping coaster (SLC) with seven inversions.
- Texas Stingray — 48" minimum. Longest wooden coaster in Texas at 3,000+ feet of track.
- Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster — 48" minimum. A water coaster themed around sea rescue — launches over the park's main lake.
Mid-Range Rides
- Barracuda Strike — 42" minimum. North America's tallest inverted family coaster (90-foot lift hill, 44 mph) opened March 2026. Zero inversions makes it a genuine gateway coaster for smaller riders.
- Catapult Falls — 42" minimum. The world's first launched flume coaster. A 53-degree plunge at 37+ mph. Gets you soaked.
- Journey to Atlantis — 42" minimum. Part coaster, part water ride. Big splash at the bottom.
- Rio Loco — 42" minimum. A river raft ride that will thoroughly soak everyone in the boat regardless of where they're sitting.
- Riptide Rescue — 45" minimum. A spinning gondola ride where cars fly out on three arms — closer to a traditional flat ride.
Family Rides (Lower or No Requirements)
- SeaWorld Swing — 42" minimum (unaccompanied). Children under 42" can ride if accompanied by a supervising companion.
- Beach Rescue Racer (Rescue Jr.) — 38" minimum. 1,300 feet of family coaster track in rescue jeep vehicles. Kids 38"–48" need a supervising companion.
- Seabird Swing (Rescue Jr.) — 36" minimum. Kids 36"–42" need a supervising companion.
- Ocean Quest Express (Rescue Jr.) — 30" minimum. Kids 30"–42" need a supervising companion.
- Tide Pool Tumbler (Rescue Jr.) — 36" minimum.
- Ocean Rescue Carousel — No height requirement. Open to all ages.
- Sesame Street Bay of Play rides (carousel, Shamu Express kiddie coaster) — No height minimum. Designed for young children.
What Counts as a "Supervising Companion"
At SeaWorld San Antonio, a supervising companion must be at least 14 years old and 54" tall. This is the same person who helps smaller riders meet the requirement on rides that allow accompanied riders below the standard minimum.
Tips for Measuring Before You Go
- Measure your child at home in shoes, not barefoot — park staff measure in whatever the child is wearing.
- Hairdo counts. A thick bun or ponytail can add a half inch, though ride operators sometimes ask kids to remove hats.
- If you're borderline, go to Guest Services when you arrive and get measured for a wristband that shows your child's height range. This saves repeated measuring at every ride.
- The park posts each ride's requirement on signs at the ride entrance queue and on the official SeaWorld San Antonio ride page.
No-Height-Requirement Highlights
For guests with very young children, the following areas are fully open regardless of size:
- Ocean Rescue Carousel
- Sesame Street Bay of Play (carousel, play areas, splash zone)
- All animal exhibits (penguins, dolphins, stingrays, sharks, sea lions)
- All live shows and presentations
New in 2026: Barracuda Strike
Barracuda Strike is the ride most families should be paying attention to. At 42 inches, it opens up a suspended coaster experience to kids who haven't been able to ride Great White or Steel Eel. The 90-foot lift hill and 44 mph speed feel significant, but the zero-inversion design keeps it accessible. If your child is 42"–48" and ready for something beyond the kiddie zone, this is the first ride to try.
