The Fast Answer
Most rides at Disneyland have no height requirement at all. Of the attractions that do have a minimum, the cutoffs cluster at 35", 38", 40", 42", and 46". Once a child hits 48" they can ride everything at the resort. About three-quarters of the total ride count is open to guests of any height.
No Height Requirement
These rides are open to everyone, including lap infants (with adult supervision):

35 Inches — Minimum Height
- Chip 'n' Dale's GADGET Coaster — Fantasyland's gentle junior coaster, the lowest requirement on-property
38 Inches
- Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (DCA, Galaxy's Edge) — pilot, gunner, or engineer; kids under 38" stay on the ground
40 Inches — The Big Unlock
Hitting 40" opens up the most rides in one jump. These all require 40" or taller:
Disneyland Park:
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
- Space Mountain
- Star Tours — The Adventures Continue
- Rise of the Resistance
- Tiana's Bayou Adventure (former Splash Mountain)
Disney California Adventure:
- Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT!
- Radiator Springs Racers
- Soarin' Around the World
- Jumpin' Jellyfish
- Silly Symphony Swings
42 Inches
- Matterhorn Bobsleds — requires 42"; despite looking like a family ride it has a genuine height cutoff
- Grizzly River Run (DCA) — the splashy whitewater raft ride
- Incredicoaster (DCA) — the fastest coaster at either park
- Goofy's Sky School (DCA) — junior wild mouse coaster
44 Inches
- California Screamin' — this coaster has been rebranded to Incredicoaster (listed at 42"); if you see 44" references they may be from older guides
46 Inches — The Tallest Requirement at Disneyland Park
- Indiana Jones Adventure — the highest single requirement in Disneyland Park; a strict 46"
48 Inches — The Magic Number
At 48" a guest can ride every attraction at the entire Disneyland Resort. No single ride at either park exceeds a 48" cutoff.
Rider Switch (Rider Swap)
If one adult in your party must stay behind because a child doesn't meet a height requirement, use Rider Switch. One adult rides while the other waits with the child. When the first adult exits, the second adult (and up to two guests from the original party) can use the Lightning Lane entrance without waiting in the standby line again. Ask any Cast Member at the attraction entrance to get set up.
Tips for Traveling with Borderline-Height Kids
- Measure at home the morning you leave, not six weeks before the trip
- Wear shoes with a flat sole — no platforms that might compress
- Cast Members use a fixed measuring stick; there is no negotiation
- If a child is turned away, ask about Rider Switch immediately
- The Disneyland app lists height requirements for every attraction under its individual detail pages
