Holiday World Seasonal Events: What to Know Before You Go
Holiday World operates on a seasonal calendar that goes beyond just standard operating days. Several events — particularly the fall Halloween programming — are destination-worthy on their own and draw visitors who have already been to the park multiple times in a season. Here's a breakdown of the major events.
Happy Halloween Weekends (September through October)
Happy Halloween Weekends is the park's signature fall event and runs Saturdays and Sundays from mid-September through the end of October. For 2025, the event ran September 20 through October 26. Saturdays are typically 11am to 8pm, with extended Saturday hours (until 10pm) on the final three or four weekends.
What's Included
Everything below is included with standard park admission — no upcharge:
- Dino Corn Maze (2025 theme) — a 12-acre corn maze with two dozen life-sized dinosaurs, including animatronic predators. The theme rotates year to year; 2025 was the Dino Corn Maze Adventure, nominated by USA Today.
- Hayrides — included, family-friendly
- Trick-or-Treat Trail — for children 12 and younger
- Drone Show — Saturday nights feature 500+ synchronized drones in a choreographed aerial show. For 2025 it was a dinosaur-themed program called "Dinos Soar in the Sky" running at 7:45pm.
- Carnival Chaos — haunted maze with clowns, side-show themes, strobe lights, and occasional loud noises. This one is called out explicitly for older children and adults — it's a genuine scare maze, not a gentle Halloween walk-through.
- Kitty's 3D Candy Farm — gentler Halloween maze option with lollipop fields and candy-themed environments, appropriate for younger kids
- Kitty's Dance Spooktacular — live show at Hoosier Celebration Theater
All standard park rides continue operating during Happy Halloween Weekends, though some children's area rides (Turkey Whirl, Rudolph's Reindeer Ranch) close earlier on Saturday evenings for the adult-focused programming.
Tickets for Halloween Weekends
Tickets for Happy Halloween Weekends are only available for purchase online. Children ages 3 and younger are free. The park uses a Pick Your Date calendar for online pricing, so buying in advance typically saves money versus showing up at the gate. Season passholders attend at no additional cost beyond their pass.
Crowd Impact
The final three or four Saturdays with extended hours (until 10pm) are the most crowded of the fall season. If you want the full Halloween experience without peak crowds, early-October weekends or Sunday visits are better bets. Ride wait times during Happy Halloween Weekends are generally lighter than peak summer Saturdays because the event draws a different visitor profile — many guests come for the special event attractions and spend less time in the ride queue.
Friday Night Live (Late Summer and Fall)
Friday Night Live runs from late August through October. It's a discounted evening admission event that opens around 5pm and runs until park close. Features include:
- Discounted admission compared to full-day tickets
- Night rides on all major coasters
- A Saturday drone show (500+ drones) on some dates — the park advertises this on the events calendar
- Live entertainment depending on the specific Friday
Friday Night Live is the best value timing for adult visitors or guests without young children who want to maximize coaster laps. The evening atmosphere changes the Raven experience significantly — that swooping section over Lake Rudolph hits differently in the dark.
Summer Season (May through August)
Holiday World's standard operating season runs May through late October. Both Holiday World and Splashin' Safari are open during the main summer months, with Splashin' Safari typically running May through early September.
The park does not currently operate a separate special ticketed summer night event. Standard operating days run through the summer, and July 4th weekend is the park's single busiest period of the year.
Season Opener and Passholder Preview Days
For 2026, the park announced season passholder preview days before the general public opening. If you have a season pass or are planning multiple visits, these preview days offer the lowest-crowd conditions of the entire season — rides with near walk-on wait times on brand-new-season track.
What's Not Currently at Holiday World
For visitors familiar with larger park chains: Holiday World does not operate a winter/Christmas event open to the general public during the off-season. The park's Christmas theming is a year-round part of the regular Santa Claus section — Santa is available every operating day — but there is no separate December event.
The park also does not have a haunted-upcharge event equivalent to Cedar Fair's Haunt programs. Happy Halloween Weekends is included with regular admission.
