Three Events That Define the Calendar
Busch Gardens Tampa runs three major seasonal overlays each year that transform the park experience. Two are separately ticketed (Howl-O-Scream), and one is included with regular admission (Christmas Town). Understanding what each event is — and what it isn't — prevents surprises.
Howl-O-Scream (Halloween Event)
Dates: Howl-O-Scream runs select nights from early September through early November. The 2025 event ran September 5 through November 2. The 2026 event runs September 11 through November 1. The event starts at 7pm; gates open at 5pm on event nights.
Tickets: Separately ticketed from regular park admission. Tickets started at $34.99 during early-season sales in 2025. This is not included with regular park admission or annual passes (some annual pass tiers include a set number of Howl-O-Scream nights — check your pass tier).
What's included:
- Five haunted houses with different themes
- Multiple outdoor scare zones with roaming actors
- All park rides, including all roller coasters (the park runs normal ride operations during the event)
- Live entertainment specific to the event
- No-charge animal habitats (though several animal areas close at dusk)
2025 Haunted Houses:
- M.A.R.S. — Crashed spacecraft on Mars with alien creature encounters
- Ravens Mill: Lambs to Slaughter — Cursed farm where visitors become part of the ritual
- Breadcrumbs to Nowhere — Lost in Havenwood Forest, lured by the Crone's lair
- Murders at Buckshot Ridge — Logging camp overtaken by the forest
- Shadows of Wonderland: Sickening Sequel — Warped Wonderland under the Queen of Hearts
Add-on: Front Line Fear — Starting at $69.99, gives front-of-line access to all five haunted houses. On busy event nights (Saturdays, October weekends), haunted house lines hit 45-60 minutes per house. If your goal is to complete all five houses in one night, Front Line Fear changes that from a five-hour proposition to a two-hour one.
Add-on: Howl-O-Scream VIP Tour — $299.99 per person (two-person minimum). Includes unlimited front-of-line access to all houses, a private meal, beverages, and preferred parking. Built for guests who want the full experience without any logistics friction.
Who Howl-O-Scream is not for: Young children. The event is designed as adult horror. Haunted houses include jump scares, contact-adjacent moments, loud audio, strobe lights, and genuinely disturbing imagery. The park's own materials make clear this is not a family-friendly Halloween overlay — it's a serious scare event. Families with young kids should visit during daytime hours on non-event nights.
Crowd impact: Howl-O-Scream nights — especially October Saturdays — are among the busiest nights of the year at Busch Gardens Tampa. If you're attending purely for the roller coasters, a non-event weekend in October is a better choice. If you're attending for the event itself, earlier nights in September tend to have shorter queues for the houses.
Christmas Town
Dates: Christmas Town 2025 ran November 14, 2025 through January 5, 2026 on select nights. Expect similar timing in subsequent years.
Cost: Included with regular park admission and annual passes. This is the key difference from Howl-O-Scream — no separate ticket required. If you have a Fun Card or annual pass, Christmas Town nights are free.
What's included with admission:
- Holiday lighting — millions of lights throughout the park, with new Serengeti Light Show added in 2025 featuring tens of thousands of lights choreographed to "Carol of the Bells"
- Santa's North Pole meet-and-greet area
- Holly Jolly Express (the park train, decorated for the season)
- Christmas on Ice show
- Three Kings Journey show
- Rudolph's Winter Wonderland character meet area
- Drone show: Holiday Skies Spectacular (added in 2025 — hundreds of synchronized drones choreographed to holiday music)
- All regular rides and roller coasters remain operational
Special dates:
- New Year's Eve (December 31): music, fireworks, and rides until midnight
- The Coca-Cola Holiday Caravan visited in December 2025 at Festival Field
Food: Christmas Cabins open from 4pm with seasonal treats and holiday-themed cocktails. New holiday food items are introduced each year.
Who Christmas Town is best for: Families and couples who want a holiday atmosphere without the intensity of Howl-O-Scream. The combination of lights, animals, and rides with a seasonal overlay makes it a strong value, especially for annual pass holders.
Crowd note: The weeks immediately before Christmas and the week between Christmas and New Year's are the busiest stretch. If you have pass flexibility, visit on a weeknight in late November or early December — the lights and show content are the same, but crowds are significantly smaller.
Summer Events: Food and Wine Festival and Concerts
Dates: Summer events run from roughly Memorial Day through July at Busch Gardens Tampa.
What to expect:
- The Food and Wine Festival features food and beverage stands throughout the park with themes rotating by international cuisine
- Live concerts at Festival Field — past lineups have included both tribute acts and recognizable touring artists
- Concerts are generally included with park admission for annual pass holders; daily ticket holders may need a separate concert ticket for specific shows
Crowd impact: Summer is peak season at Busch Gardens Tampa. School's out, Florida tourism is at its annual high, and the park is genuinely busy. Summer weekday waits average 15-25 minutes, but summer weekend waits frequently hit 45-60 minutes on major coasters. Quick Queue becomes more defensible in July and August than at any other time of year.
