Why Height Requirements Matter at Lagoon
Lagoon's height chart is more complex than a simple cutoff. The park uses a tiered system where some rides have no requirement at all, some require a companion for shorter riders, and a handful have both a minimum and a maximum. The ticket pricing also ties to height — guests under 48 inches get a Youth ticket rate, while anyone 48 inches and taller pays the Regular Rider price. Knowing the chart before you arrive saves you from having to disappoint a kid at the loading platform.
No Minimum Height Requirement
These rides are open to guests of any height and are fair game even for toddlers riding with an adult.
- Sky Scraper Ferris Wheel — 150-foot wheel with great views of the Wasatch Front, completely open to all ages
- Wild Kingdom Train — a slow loop around Lagoon's small animal exhibits, great for resting legs
- Jumping Dragon — spinning dragon ride for all ages, produces mild spinning butterflies
- Pioneer Village attractions — the museum buildings, gun exhibit, and miniature circus display have no height restriction
- Carousel — classic horse carousel, no height minimum
- Various Kiddieland rides — bumper boats, baby rockets, and mini vehicles are designed for small children; many have a maximum height rather than a minimum
36 Inches and Up
These rides open up for guests who hit the 36-inch mark, which covers most kids by age 3 or 4.
- BomBora — Lagoon's most approachable roller coaster. A 1960s surf-themed family coaster that crests at 45 feet. Smooth, not scary, but absolutely qualifies as a real coaster. Riders must be 36 inches or taller.
- Rattlesnake Rapids — round raft ride that will get the whole group wet. Minimum 36 inches. Plan to be soaked.
42 Inches and Up
- The Bat — Lagoon's only inverted roller coaster. Your feet dangle and the ride swings through suspended curves. Minimum height is 42 inches. Kids between 42 and 46 inches need a supervising companion in the adjacent seat.
46 Inches and Up
Reaching 46 inches unlocks the largest single block of thrill rides at Lagoon.
- Colossus: The Fire Dragon — double-looping steel coaster, one of the park's classics. 46-inch minimum.
- Roller Coaster — the wooden classic built in 1921. Still runs, still rattles. Minimum 46 inches for accompanied riders; 50 inches to ride unaccompanied.
- Spider — spinning coaster where cars rotate freely. Four riders face each other and spin up to 20 rotations per minute through the course. 46-inch minimum.
- Cliffhanger — note: this ride was removed as of early 2025 and is no longer operating.
- Samurai — Mondial Top Scan with six radial arms rotating through an oval arc. High intensity. 46-inch minimum.
- Log Flume — classic water ride with a big drop splash. 46-inch minimum.
- Terroride — Lagoon's indoor dark ride with a long history. 46-inch minimum.
48 Inches and Up
- Cannibal — Lagoon's signature ride and the one that gets national attention. An enclosed elevator lift brings you up 208 feet, then drops you at 116 degrees — steeper than vertical. The ride includes the trademarked "Lagoon Roll" double inversion. Minimum height is 48 inches.
- Wicked — launched coaster that fires you straight up a vertical 110-foot tower at 40 mph, crests, then comes back down at 55 mph. Riders between 46 and 50 inches must ride with a supervising companion. Solo riders need to be at least 50 inches.
- Primordial — the park's newer family-thrill coaster, which opened to national acclaim. Check the ride placard for current requirements; generally in the 46-48 inch range.
2025 Additions: The District
Three new rides opened in the steampunk-themed District area in May 2025:
- Time Tinker — four interlocking arms rotating in synchronized orbits; family-thrill tier
- SteamWorx — a top spin variant with eight seats on each side, stays upright through the full cycle
- Rivets and Rotors — children's helicopter ride with rider-controlled elevation, max height of 15 feet
Height requirements for these three were not posted at time of writing; check the ride placard or the Lagoon app before queuing.
2026 Addition: Nutcracker
Lagoon announced a new S&S Screamin' Swing called Nutcracker set to open in 2026. It will stand over 100 feet and reach speeds up to 68 mph. Screamin' Swings typically require 48 to 52 inches — watch the official site for the confirmed number.
Kiddieland Maximum Heights
Some Kiddieland rides have a maximum height rather than a minimum — typically 54 inches or 56 inches. This keeps older kids off rides sized for toddlers. If you have a tall 6-year-old, confirm with the ride host before getting in line.
Quick Reference Strategy
Measure your kids before leaving home. Lagoon's official Master Index at lagoonpark.com/master-index/ lets you filter rides by height category. Use it the night before your visit to build a ride list everyone in your group can actually board. Nothing kills the day faster than getting turned away at Cannibal because someone is half an inch short.
