Why Knoebels Height Rules Are Different

Most parks post a generic height chart at the entrance. Knoebels is more straightforward than that — the requirements are printed on individual ride signs and on the park map, and the range is tighter than you might expect. The majority of thrill rides require 42 inches, with only the most intense rides bumping to 46 or 48 inches. That makes Knoebels one of the more inclusive parks in the Northeast for kids in the 40–46 inch window.

Knoebels also has no park admission fee, no gate to pass through, and no wristband scan — so there's no moment where the whole family gets turned away because one kid is too short. You find out ride by ride, which takes some pressure off.

Family and Flat Rides

Most of Knoebels' flat rides in the main midway sit in the 36–42 inch zone. The Satellite, Tilt-A-Whirl, and similar rides typically require 36 inches with an accompanying adult, or 42 inches to ride alone. Always check the sign at each ride — the posted requirement is the definitive source.

Kiddie Rides (No Height Requirement or Under 36 Inches)

Knoebels has a dedicated Kiddieland section with over a dozen rides designed for children who haven't hit the 36-inch mark yet. These include:

Most kiddie rides allow an adult to accompany a child who cannot ride alone. A few are strictly child-only — again, check the sign.

Child Swap Policy

Knoebels offers a child swap program at rides with height requirements. One adult rides while the other stays with the child who doesn't meet the requirement. After the first adult exits, the second adult boards without waiting in line again. Ask the ride operator at the entrance — they handle it informally and the process is smooth.

What to Do If You're Unsure

Bring a flexible measuring tape or measure your child at home against a doorframe before you go. The park uses standard US inches. Wearing shoes adds about half an inch but most operators measure with shoes on, which is the standard. If your child is borderline on the 42-inch rides, the Phoenix is a good first coaster — the airtime is significant but the ride is smooth and there are lap bar-only restraints.
