The Core Challenge for Families
Dorney Park is primarily a thrill park. The majority of its signature rides require 48 inches or taller, which means kids under about 7 or 8 years old can't access the main lineup. The good news: Planet Snoopy is a genuinely well-designed kids area with 16 rides for the under-48-inch crowd, and it keeps little ones busy for a full morning while older siblings and parents cycle through the major coasters nearby.
Ages 2-5: Planet Snoopy Is the Whole Day
For toddlers and preschoolers, plan to spend most of your time in Planet Snoopy. The area features:
- Snoopy's Junction — A kiddie train that loops through the area with Conductor Snoopy branding. No height requirement. Great for very young kids who just want to ride something.
- PEANUTS 500 — Oval kiddie car track. Small cars, slow speed, kids love it.
- Balloon Race — Spinning car ride where kids sit in cars that go around a central column. Classic carnival-style.
- Lucy's Crabbie Cabbies — Spinning cars shaped like crabs. Gentle enough for 2-year-olds.
- Woodstock's Airmail — Small drop ride variation for kids. Extremely mild.
Planet Snoopy also hosts the Team Charlie Brown live show (runs May through early September), which runs multiple times a day and gives parents a chance to sit down while kids watch Snoopy, Charlie Brown, and Woodstock sing and dance.
Be realistic: kids in this age range will max out after a few hours. Plan to leave by early afternoon or bring a stroller so they can nap in the park.
Ages 5-8: The Transition Zone
Kids who measure between 36 and 48 inches have a few gateway coaster options:
- Woodstock Express — At 36 inches minimum, this is the real starter coaster. It's a compact junior coaster with real airtime moments. Many kids this age ride it five or six times in a row.
- Wild Mouse — At 44 inches with a supervising companion, a shorter child can access this adult-tier coaster if they're ready for it. The sharp turns are scarier than any drop, and some kids this age are not ready for it even if they make the height.
- Scrambler, Tilt-a-Whirl, Sea Dragon — These classic midway flat rides have lower height requirements and are good bridges between kiddie rides and full coasters.
For adults with kids in this age group, the math is simple: one parent stays in Planet Snoopy, one parent rides the big coasters. Meet back at a defined location.
Ages 9-12: Full Access Starts Here
Kids who hit 48 inches unlock the main coaster lineup:
- Iron Menace — The best first-introduction to a real thrill coaster for this age group. The 48-inch cut, slow rollout at the top of the drop, and the wow factor make it memorable without being overwhelming for capable kids.
- Steel Force — Long, fast, predictable. Great for kids who want a big coaster but aren't ready for inversions.
- Thunderhawk — The wooden coaster is rough and bouncy, which some kids love and others hate. Try it mid-day when expectations are calibrated.
- Talon requires 52 inches and has four inversions — hold off until kids are confidently riding everything else first.
What to Skip With Young Kids
- Demon Drop — Freefalls are psychologically rough for kids who weren't expecting the intensity. Save it for when they ask for it.
- Possessed — Launched coasters surprise people with the g-force. Not a great first launch experience for kids.
- Hydra the Revenge — The jojo roll before the lift hill disorients first-timers of any age.
Pacing the Day
Start in Planet Snoopy early when it's uncrowded. Kids' energy is highest in the morning — use it on rides, not on walking between them. The Snoopy live show usually runs at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm; catch it to break up the day.
Plan lunch before noon. Sit-down waits in the park get long by 12:30pm. The Whitewater Tavern or Chickie's & Pete's are solid options that have seating.
By mid-afternoon, Planet Snoopy refills as families arrive late. Rotate the older kids through fast coasters while the youngest naps if needed.
Character Meets
Snoopy and Charlie Brown character meets happen in Planet Snoopy, typically near the stage area. Times vary by day — check the Dorney Park app for the daily schedule when you arrive. These are popular; get in line 15 minutes before the posted time.
One Final Note
Dorney Park does not have a separate charge for Planet Snoopy or any kids area — it's all included with regular admission. The water park (Wildwater Kingdom) is also included, and it has its own set of slides and play areas for kids. On a hot day, building in two hours at the water park mid-afternoon is one of the best moves for families with mixed ages.
