SeaWorld San Antonio Seasonal Events: What to Know Before You Go
SeaWorld San Antonio runs its calendar around three major seasonal overlays: a Halloween event (Howl-O-Scream), a kids Halloween event (Spooktacular), and a Christmas Celebration. Each changes the park experience significantly — they affect crowds, park atmosphere, and what's worth prioritizing. Here's what each event delivers and what to expect.
Howl-O-Scream (Fall — September through November)
2025 dates: Fridays through Sundays from September 12 through November 1.
Howl-O-Scream is SeaWorld San Antonio's answer to Halloween Horror Nights and Fright Fest — a hard ticket adult-oriented Halloween overlay that runs Friday–Sunday evenings through the fall.
What's included with admission:
- Six haunted houses (included with regular park admission during event hours)
- Eight scare zones throughout the park
- Live entertainment including Monster Stomp (a live band/singer/dancer show)
- All regular rides operating during event hours
Specific 2025 haunted houses included:
- Bunny Bradley's Ice Cream Shoppe
- Milton Creek Manor
- The Swamp at Blackwater Bayou
- Zombie Horde
- Dis-Assembly Line
- Atlantis: The Cursed Chasm
Ticket pricing: Howl-O-Scream is included with standard SeaWorld San Antonio admission. Gate admission runs $102+ but online tickets regularly come in at $40–$75 depending on the date. Buying in advance saves significantly. Season/annual passholders typically have access to Howl-O-Scream nights with their existing pass.
The No Boo Necklace: Guests who want to experience the event atmosphere without jump scares can purchase a No Boo Necklace at the park. These Halloween-themed necklaces signal scare actors to avoid startling the wearer — useful for guests who want to see the themed areas without the intensity, or for guests with anxiety around startle effects.
What to know: Howl-O-Scream is not appropriate for young children. Scare actors are active throughout the park, and scare zones are deliberately disorienting. The event runs specifically on Fridays through Sundays — a weekday visit to SeaWorld in fall does not include the haunted houses or scare actors.
Crowd impact: Friday nights are the lightest Howl-O-Scream nights. Saturday nights are the busiest. If you want to experience the event without maximum crowds, a Friday night visit is the best option.
Fear Passes: SeaWorld San Antonio offers Fear Pass upgrades that add front-of-line access to the haunted houses, which can run 30–45+ minute waits on peak Saturday nights. If doing all six houses is the priority, Fear Passes are worth considering.
Spooktacular (Fall — Kid-Friendly Halloween)
2025 dates: September 4 through November 2 during regular park hours.
Spooktacular runs concurrently with Howl-O-Scream but is a separate, family-oriented event during daytime hours. This is a not-so-scary Halloween experience designed for young children.
What Spooktacular includes:
- Halloween-themed decorations throughout the park
- Trick-or-treat candy trail for kids
- Character appearances in Halloween costumes
- Themed activities in Sesame Street Bay of Play
- Family-friendly shows with seasonal theming
Spooktacular operates during the regular daytime visit — you don't need to stay for the evening Howl-O-Scream hours to participate. Families with young children can do Spooktacular during the day and leave before the Howl-O-Scream scare actors come out in the evening. The two events are intended to serve different audiences in the same calendar window.
SeaWorld's Christmas Celebration (Winter)
2026–2027 dates: Select dates November 12, 2026 through January 3, 2027.
SeaWorld San Antonio's Christmas Celebration bills itself as the largest Christmas event in Texas. The park runs a full holiday overlay with major changes to the guest experience.
What the Christmas Celebration includes:
- Extensive holiday lighting throughout the park, including the main lake area
- Christmas-themed live shows
- A Christmas show in the main stadium
- Santa Claus character experiences and meet-and-greet
- Festive seasonal food and beverages
- Holiday-themed entertainment at multiple park locations
- A "Christmas Village" section with themed activities
- Snow-effect technology in select areas (simulated snow on certain nights)
Ticket notes: The Christmas Celebration is included with regular SeaWorld San Antonio park admission — no separate upcharge event ticket is required. Certain premium experiences (VIP viewing areas, special character dining if offered) may carry additional costs. Annual passholders generally have access.
Crowd considerations: The Christmas Celebration runs on select dates — not every day between November and January. Check the park calendar before assuming your date is operational. December weekends are the most popular dates; weekday visits in November or early January tend to have lighter crowds with the same full event experience.
Best dates to visit: Early December weekday evenings typically offer the full Christmas atmosphere with manageable crowd levels. The week between Christmas and New Year's is the highest-attendance period of the event season.
Summer Events
SeaWorld San Antonio runs summer concerts and special programming during the peak summer season (June–August). Programming varies by year — the park has hosted drive-in events, marine conservation programming, and special ticketed experiences in the past. Check the official events page (seaworld.com/san-antonio/events/) for the current summer lineup when planning a summer visit.
Planning Around Events
- Seasonal events significantly increase weekend attendance. If you want to experience Howl-O-Scream or the Christmas Celebration, build crowd expectations accordingly.
- Event nights (especially Saturday Howl-O-Scream nights) benefit most from Quick Queue Unlimited, since haunted house lines add to overall park congestion.
- Spooktacular is the rare fall option that doesn't require planning around crowds — a Tuesday in October during Spooktacular daytime hours is a relaxed park visit with light fall theming.
- For Christmas Celebration, arriving at park opening and hitting rides early (before the evening lighting ceremonies draw the largest crowds) lets you do both the ride experience and the event atmosphere in one visit.
