First-Timer's Guide to Wild Adventures: Everything You Need to Know
Wild Adventures in Valdosta, Georgia punches well above its weight. The park covers 170 acres and combines a full amusement park, Splash Island Waterpark, and a zoo with over 500 animals. Most first-timers show up expecting a small regional park and leave realizing they needed more time. Here is how to set up a first visit properly.
Getting There
Wild Adventures is located at 3766 Old Clyattville Road, Valdosta, GA 31601. From I-75, take Exit 13 and the park is about four miles north of the Florida state line. Navigation apps handle it well; just use the full address rather than searching the park name to avoid being routed to the wrong gate.
Parking is $18 per vehicle. Gold and Diamond Season Passholders park free. You can pre-purchase parking online to skip the cash transaction at the booth, which helps on busy mornings.
Hours and Operating Days
Wild Adventures is typically closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the regular season. Thursday through Monday are operating days, with weekend hours generally running longer. Check the official calendar at wildadventures.com before you go — the park also closes for private events and adjusts hours around seasonal events.
Best days to visit: Thursday and Friday see the lightest crowds. Saturdays draw the most people, especially during summer and concert nights.
Arrival Strategy
Arrive when the gates open. The park's first two hours have the shortest lines of the day. Hit Boomerang first — it is the park's biggest coaster and the one most people want. After that, move to the Aviator (the swinging pendulum) and Island Falls before the midday rush. By 1 p.m., lines for the waterpark peak.
Download the Wild Adventures mobile app before you arrive. It has the park map, real-time hours, and ride height requirements. More practically, it shows wait time estimates and lets you check show schedules.
Lockers and Loose Items
Lockers are available inside Discovery Outpost and at the entrance to Splash Island Waterpark. Pricing runs $18 for large lockers and $22 for family size. For Boomerang and similar thrill rides, you will need somewhere to stash phones, wallets, and keys. Most families rent one locker near the waterpark entrance and use it as a home base.
The park has a loose-article policy on high-thrill rides. Pockets alone are not sufficient on Boomerang — plan for this before you get in line.
What Surprised First-Time Visitors
- The animal component is significant. Most guests expect a small petting zoo corner and find a full-scale zoo with lions, rhinos, giraffes, two-toed sloths, and Spider Monkeys with a newly expanded triple-size habitat. The animal encounters (giraffe feeding, sloth meet, tamandua experience) are add-ons but are genuinely worth it.
- The waterpark is legitimately good. Splash Island's Paradise River lazy river was voted Best Lazy River in America by USA Today 10Best. First-timers often treat the waterpark as an afterthought and then wish they'd budgeted more time for it.
- The concert series matters. Wild Adventures runs a summer concert series in its LIVE! Amphitheater. General admission is included with a Season Pass; reserved seats require an additional purchase. On concert nights, the park stays busier later and parking fills. Know whether there is a show the night of your visit.
- Pre-K admission is free. Children 2 and under are always free. A dedicated Pre-K Season Pass exists for ages 3 to 5 at no charge for the 2026 season.
Must-Do List for a First Visit
1. Boomerang — the shuttle coaster is the signature thrill
2. Giraffe feeding encounter (book in advance)
3. Splash Island and Paradise River lazy river
4. Discovery Outpost Gator Alley (worth it even without young kids)
5. Water's Edge area — the new Horizon Wheel location has the best park views
6. At least one live show — check the schedule at the entrance
7. Alapaha Trail if it's morning and not yet hot
Food Strategy
The Dining Pass covers one meal, two snacks, and a souvenir cup with unlimited soda refills. If you are paying out of pocket for food, this usually breaks even or comes out ahead by early afternoon. Eat lunch by 11 a.m. or wait until 1:30 p.m. The 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. window is the longest food line window in the park.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Skipping the app and relying on printed maps — the app is better
- Heading to the waterpark first thing — do dry rides before the midday heat, waterpark in the afternoon
- Not checking the show schedule — shows run twice daily and the schedule is posted at the entrance
- Forgetting sunscreen — the park has significant sun exposure, especially at Splash Island
- Showing up on a concert night without knowing there's a concert — crowds spike significantly
Season Passes Pay Off Fast
If there is any chance you will visit twice, the math on Season Passes is straightforward. A Season Pass covers all of the seasonal events (Great Pumpkin LumiNights, Christmas Wild and Bright) with no additional ticket required. General concert admission is also included. Passes start at $89 for the 2026 season.
