Family Guide to Wild Adventures: Best Rides for Kids and Parents
Wild Adventures in Valdosta, Georgia is one of the Southeast's most underestimated family parks. At 170 acres, it combines a traditional amusement park, Splash Island Waterpark, and a zoo with over 500 animals — and it does all three at a price point that doesn't require a second mortgage. The trick is knowing which section to hit first with which age group.
Toddlers and Pre-K (Under 36 Inches)
Children under 36 inches have the most options in Discovery Outpost, the dedicated kids zone on the western side of the park. Six rides are designed specifically for this age group:
- Flying Gators — a gentle up-and-down ride kids can do with an adult
- Swampwater Snake — a small coaster with soft curves and no big drops
- Trail Trackers — a trackless explorer-style ride at low speed
- Outpost Express — a mini-train coaster that is the biggest thrill in the area
- Okefenokee Friends — a spinning cup ride that keeps speeds gentle
Discovery Outpost also has the 21-foot Gator Bridge over Alligator Alley, where kids can look down at live alligators. You can buy a small bag of gator food and toss it over the fence — this is genuinely one of the best five minutes in the park and it costs almost nothing.
Oasis Outpost (near the center of the park) added a kids driving ride through a Leopard Tortoise habitat. Children steer small vehicles through the habitat and get close to animals that can live up to 100 years. This is calm, contained, and endlessly interesting for small kids.
For waterpark time, the Paradise River lazy river is the right call for toddlers — no slide, no drop, just a gentle float that adults enjoy as much as kids.
Elementary-Age Kids (36 to 48 Inches)
This is the range where Wild Adventures really delivers. Kids in this window can do most of the family ride catalog and a handful of the lower-threshold thrill rides:
- Tilt-A-Whirl — classic spinning fun that does not require height over 32 inches with an adult
- Wacky Wheels — teacup variant; riders between 36 and 46 inches need an adult companion
- Whirling Wildcats — a swinging carnival ride; between 36 and 48 inches with a companion
- Turtle Twist — between 36 and 52 inches
- Safari Train — kids under 42 inches ride with an adult; a great way to cover ground and spot animals
- Aviator — the park's swinging pendulum attraction; 42-inch minimum with companion for those under 48
- Horizon Wheel — the relocated Ferris Wheel in the Water's Edge area offers a great view of the park and is calm enough for most ages
For water, kids in this range can handle most of the Splash Island waterpark. Check individual slide heights at each entrance.
Tweens and Teens (48 Inches and Up)
Once your kid clears 48 inches, the full park opens up:
- Boomerang — the park's signature shuttle coaster shoots riders forward, then backward through the same layout. Lines are usually shorter in the last two hours of the day.
- Aviator — swinging pendulum at full speed for riders 48 and over
- Island Falls — water ride with real splash factor; got two new boats in 2026
- Wahoo and the waterpark slides — all in play
Animal Experiences Worth Scheduling
Wild Adventures holds giraffe feedings, sloth encounters, and tamandua encounters as add-on purchases. These sell out on busy days, so book them when you buy tickets. The giraffe feeding in particular is a hands-on, one-on-one moment that kids genuinely remember.
The tiger show and giraffe feeding both run twice daily. Check the posted schedule at the park entrance when you arrive.
Nap and Rest Strategy
For families with toddlers, the best move is arriving when gates open (typically 10 a.m. on operating days), front-loading rides and animal encounters for two to three hours, then retreating to Splash Island for the warmest part of the afternoon. Splash Island has a dedicated toddler zone with small slides. The lazy river serves as a reset for overtired kids without requiring anyone to do anything strenuous.
The new Quiet Room in the Water's Edge area opened in 2025 and was designed with input from the Valdosta Family Autism Support Team. It offers a low-stimulation space for kids who need a sensory break without leaving the park.
What to Skip With Young Kids
- Boomerang — intense shuttle coaster, not appropriate under 48 inches and genuinely jarring
- Any waterpark body slide — check heights individually; they go fast
- Crowds on weekends during concert nights — the amphitheater draws large crowds; visit Tuesday through Thursday for calmer conditions
Pre-K Pass
Wild Adventures offers a Pre-K FREE Kid's Season Pass for children ages 3 to 5. This covers the full 2026 season including seasonal events. If you have a pre-K child in your household, there is no reason to pay daily admission for them.
