Best Months to Visit Hersheypark
September is the single best month for stacking rides at Hersheypark, with back-to-school dips in crowd levels and nearly the full lineup of coasters still running.
The verdict
If your goal is to ride Storm Runner, Skyrush, Candymonium, and Fahrenheit back to back without burning half your day in queues, late August through mid-September is where you want to be. School is back in session across most of the country, the summer rush has cleared, and the weather in Hershey, Pennsylvania is still warm and completely ride-worthy. Modeled crowd levels in September typically sit well below the August peak, which on average runs around 35% capacity. That gap translates directly into more laps per hour.
Month-by-month
January: The park runs limited winter operations and crowd levels are typically around 5%. If you want to experience Hersheypark at its most relaxed pace, this is it.
February: Similar to January, cold-weather operations keep attendance light. A great time to take your time at every attraction that's open.
March: Spring break season starts pushing levels up, averaging around 16%. The park begins ramping up operations and energy picks back up noticeably.
April: One of the lighter months of the spring calendar, with modeled crowd levels around 9%. Comfortable weather and more open space across the park.
May: Full operations are typically back and the season is in stride. Crowd levels average around 17%, with weekdays being significantly more open than weekends.
June: School lets out and the summer energy arrives. Longer operating hours, all attractions running, and the park at its most alive.
July: Peak summer. All entertainment, dining, and ride experiences are running at full capacity. This is Hersheypark in full swing, and it shows.
August: The busiest month on the calendar, averaging around 35% capacity. Every show, coaster, and food option is going, and the park has maximum energy through early August.
September: Back-to-school dip kicks in mid-month. Ride access per hour climbs noticeably on weekdays, and the full coaster lineup is typically still operating.
October: Halloween Haunt transforms the park on weekends, and it is worth planning around specifically. Weekdays in October offer a different experience entirely.
November: The season winds toward its close. A quieter stretch before the holiday programming begins.
December: Holiday in the Park brings the park back to life with lights and seasonal experiences. Crowd levels are typically around 5%, making it a relaxed way to close out the year.
Special events worth planning around
Halloween Haunt runs select nights in October and it is one of the best reasons to visit Hersheypark as an adult. Scare zones, haunted attractions, and the coasters running at night, it is a completely different park experience than a summer day visit.
Holiday in the Park covers late November and December with lights throughout the property and seasonal entertainment. It is a genuinely fun reason to visit in the colder months when you would not otherwise expect the park to be running.
Opening weekend in spring is a high-energy moment every year. Returning guests who have been waiting since October show up ready to ride, and the enthusiasm in the park is real.
Matching your visit style to the season
If you want the park running at full capacity with every coaster, every show, every food stand, and maximum atmosphere, late June through early August delivers exactly that. You are there when Hersheypark is operating at its fullest expression.
If your priority is ride count and you want to walk onto Skyrush or Fahrenheit without a long wait, a weekday in September or a non-event weekday in October is the move. The park is still fully operational on those days, just quieter.
Halloween Haunt weekends are their own category entirely and deserve a dedicated trip if you have not been.
For the highest ride-per-hour count on a summer visit, aim for a Tuesday or Wednesday in late May before the school year ends.
