The Line Problem at Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom has one major line problem and it's concentrated in one place: Pandora. Avatar Flight of Passage is the most in-demand attraction at Walt Disney World, and its standby queue regularly hits 90-120 minutes by mid-morning on a busy day. Everything else in the park is manageable with good timing. Flight of Passage is the one ride where you need a specific plan.

Expedition Everest and Na'vi River Journey also build long queues — typically 45-75 minutes — once the park fills up. The safari, the shows, and the walking trails don't have the same line pressure.

Option 1: Lightning Lane Single Pass (Paid — for Flight of Passage)

Avatar Flight of Passage is sold as a Lightning Lane Single Pass — a separate, individual purchase from the Multi Pass. This is Disney's system for their highest-demand rides.

Price: Typically $12-$22 per person depending on the date, with higher prices on busy days. Check the My Disney Experience app for the current price on your visit date.

How it works: Purchase in the My Disney Experience app (available starting at 7 AM on the day of your visit). Select a return window (usually 1-2 hours). Return during that window and use the Lightning Lane entrance, which typically has a 5-15 minute wait versus a 90-120 minute standby.

Is it worth it? Almost always yes for Flight of Passage, especially on a busy day. It's the most time-per-dollar you can buy at Animal Kingdom. If your group is four people at $20 each, that's $80 to save ~90 minutes of standing in a queue in the Florida heat. Do the math for your group.

Sell-out risk: Lightning Lane Single Passes for Flight of Passage do sell out on peak days, sometimes before 8 AM. Buy yours the moment the 7 AM purchase window opens if you're visiting on a busy period.

Option 2: Lightning Lane Multi Pass (Paid — for Everything Else)

Lightning Lane Multi Pass covers most other attractions at Animal Kingdom (not Flight of Passage, which is Single Pass only).

Price: Ranges from $16 to $25 per person per day at Animal Kingdom, based on demand. Prices have been on the higher end in summer 2026. Multi Pass pricing is dynamic and date-specific — check the My Disney Experience app.

What's included at Animal Kingdom: Expedition Everest, Na'vi River Journey, Kali River Rapids, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Feathered Friends in Flight, Finding Nemo: The Big Blue... and Beyond!, and Zootopia: Better Zoogether, among others.

How it works: Book your first selection at 7 AM (day-of). After scanning in on your first reservation, you can book your next. You can hold one at a time (with exceptions for certain show selections). Selections update throughout the day.

Best picks with Multi Pass at Animal Kingdom: Na'vi River Journey (often 45-60 minute waits), Expedition Everest, and Kilimanjaro Safaris during peak midday hours.

Is Multi Pass worth it at Animal Kingdom? It depends on the day. On lower-crowd days, the free strategies below make Multi Pass unnecessary. On busy summer or holiday days, it saves real time at Everest and the safari. If you're only buying one thing, buy the Single Pass for Flight of Passage first — that's where the leverage is highest.

Option 3: Lightning Lane Premier Pass (Paid — All-Inclusive)

Premier Pass covers everything — all Lightning Lane Multi Pass rides plus Lightning Lane Single Pass rides including Flight of Passage. This is the top-tier, no-decisions-required option.

Price: $129-$199 per person per day, depending on date. Animal Kingdom pricing is on the lower end of the Disney park range because the park has fewer Single Pass eligible rides.

Who it's for: Families who want to do everything with minimal planning, or guests who can't be at the park for rope drop and want guaranteed access to Flight of Passage without selling out.

Free Strategy 1: Rope Drop

The single most effective free strategy is arriving before official park opening and going straight to Pandora.

Free Strategy 2: Single Rider Line (Expedition Everest)

Expedition Everest has a single rider line. If your group doesn't mind potentially riding separately, the single rider line typically moves 2-3x faster than the standby line. On moderate wait days (60-minute standby), the single rider line may be 15-20 minutes.

Note: Flight of Passage does NOT have a single rider line.

Free Strategy 3: End-of-Day Rides

In the last 60-90 minutes before park close, waits drop significantly — even for Flight of Passage. If you're a resort guest with extended evening hours, this is the best time to ride with minimal wait for free. Even during regular hours, the 5 PM window (if the park closes at 6-7 PM) often sees lines cut in half.

Free Strategy 4: Mid-Week, Non-Holiday Mornings

Animal Kingdom's crowd pressure is most concentrated on weekends and holiday periods. On a Tuesday or Wednesday in a non-peak period, getting to the park at opening and following the rope-drop strategy to Pandora means walk-on or near-walk-on waits for Flight of Passage. No paid options needed.

What Not to Buy

Lightning Lane Multi Pass for Kilimanjaro Safaris on a low-to-moderate crowd day is often unnecessary — the safari queue moves constantly and a 30-40 minute wait doesn't feel as long because you're watching a live-action narration video in the queue. Put your Multi Pass picks toward Expedition Everest and Na'vi River Journey instead.
