Why Knoebels Food Is Actually Good
Amusement park food has a reputation for being overpriced and mediocre. Knoebels is a legitimate exception. The park has won national awards for its dining multiple times — USA Today readers named the Alamo Restaurant the best theme park restaurant in the country. The food court routinely shows up on lists of the best park dining in the world.
The pricing is genuinely out of step with what you expect at a park in 2025. A cheeseburger at the Alamo runs around $5. A hot dog is closer to $3. If you've spent time at Disney or Universal recently, these numbers will seem like a printing error.
The reason: Knoebels makes revenue from rides, not from a captive audience that paid $100 to get in. Without a gate price, the park's model doesn't depend on squeezing guests at every food stand.
The Alamo Restaurant
The Alamo is Knoebels' flagship full-service restaurant and the one that gets the most press. It has been in operation since 1926 — the same year the park opened. The building is climate-controlled, which matters on a hot July Saturday.
The menu runs deep: cheeseburgers, hot dogs, cheesesteaks, soups, ice cream, and a range of classic American diner fare. Prices are consistent with what you'd pay at a decent local diner, not a theme park. The Alamo does get crowded at peak lunch hours (roughly noon to 1:30pm). Eating at 11am or waiting until after 2pm cuts your wait significantly.
Oasis Cafeteria
The Oasis Cafeteria is the best per-dollar value in the park. It offers all-you-can-eat spaghetti with meatballs or sausage, a garlic roll, and salad. For a family that arrived hungry and wants to fuel up before riding, this is the move.
It's cafeteria-style service, so the line moves fast. The Oasis tends to be less crowded than the Alamo because it gets less press, even though the value is comparable.
International Food Court
The International Food Court on the main midway covers the broadest range of options in one place: pierogies, tri-taters (a Knoebels staple — think a baked potato hybrid), cheesesteaks, and various other items. This is the busiest food area in the park during peak hours.
If you're using the Food Court during peak lunch, expect lines. The hack is to hit it before noon or use a different location for your main meal and come here for a specific item (the pierogies, especially).
Nickle Plate Bar & Grill
The Nickle Plate is Knoebels' full-service bar and grill, situated near the Three Ponds Golf Course away from the main midway. It has a family dining area, a full bar, and views of the golf course — the quietest dining experience on the property.
This is the right call for adults who want to sit down for a real meal with a drink without midway noise. It doesn't get the foot traffic the Alamo does, so waits are shorter. It also runs seasonal events and is worth checking the events calendar for evening specials.
Knoebels Food Staples Worth Seeking Out
- Fresh-cut fries — Made throughout the park at various stands, these are hand-cut and notably better than frozen-fry alternatives you find elsewhere
- Slow-roasted beef sandwiches — A longtime park staple available at the main food court area
- Hand-dipped ice cream — Available from the Alamo and several midway stands; the portion sizes are generous
- Homemade fudge — Sold at confectionery stands and one of the few things at Knoebels that's actually a souvenir-worthy purchase
- Liege waffles — Added to the menu in recent seasons, available with a wide range of toppings including Nutella, caramel, banana, and whipped cream
- Bubble tea — A newer addition, available at select locations
Timing Your Meals
The single best thing you can do for dining at Knoebels is eat lunch at 11am. The Alamo and the food court both see their biggest crowds between 12pm and 1:30pm. If you're at the park when it opens at 10am, spend the first hour on rides, then eat at 11am before the rush hits.
Similarly, a 3pm or 4pm late lunch works well if you can hold out — crowds thin after the midday peak and the food quality doesn't change.
Bringing Your Own Food
Knoebels explicitly allows outside food and maintains free picnic facilities. There is no bag check or food inspection process at the entrance — you walk in, you set up at a pavilion, and you eat your own food. This is a genuinely rare policy for an amusement park of any size.
For large family groups or budget-focused visits, bringing a cooler with lunch significantly reduces the daily spend. The park's pavilion areas are covered, have picnic tables, and sit in the shaded grove area — comfortable even on warm days.
New Menu Items for 2025
Knoebels added over three dozen new menu items for the 2024 season that carried into 2025 — boneless wings, bubble tea, a rotating pizza of the week, and a rotating burger of the week. The park has been actively expanding the menu while keeping prices grounded, which is worth noting if you've visited in previous years and thought the options were limited.
