How to Eat Well at Gilroy Gardens
Gilroy Gardens is in Gilroy, California — the garlic capital of the world. The park leans into that identity throughout its food program, and there are several things worth eating here that you can't get anywhere else. The dining setup is counter service only; there's no table-service reservation restaurant. That simplifies planning: you show up, you order, you find a table.
The main timing rule: eat before noon or after 2pm. Between noon and 2pm, every counter hits maximum queue length and kitchen backups slow ticket times. The 11am–11:45am lunch window is the cleanest.
The Restaurants
Castroville Corners
This is the quick-service anchor of the park, and the most important item on the menu is the Gilroy Garlic Fries. They are not seasoned-salt fries with a garlic label. They're made with actual garlic — generous, not subtle. If you're only eating one thing at Gilroy Gardens, it should be this.
The menu also includes:
- Chicken strips
- Fish and chips
- Mini corn dogs
Good for families with picky eaters because the rest of the menu is straightforward park food.
San Juan Grill
Located on the western side of the park, San Juan Grill has the widest menu variety:
- Burgers
- Chicken strips
- Rotisserie chicken
- Mexican cuisine options
This is the best option if half your group wants a burger and the other half wants something closer to Mexican street food. It's also one of the less-discovered restaurants in the park because it's on the far side from the main entrance — which means shorter lines at peak hours.
The Wok
Located in Camellia Garden, The Wok serves:
- Teriyaki chicken
- Orange chicken
- Vegetarian tofu bowls
The vegetarian tofu bowl is the best dedicated non-meat option in the park. The setting in Camellia Garden is also pleasant — more shade than most dining areas. The line here is consistently shorter than Castroville Corners because of the location.
Lakeside Smokehouse
The newest restaurant in the park (opened as part of Lakeside Splash). Serves BBQ:
- Beef brisket (slow-smoked)
- Pulled pork
- Sausage
- Curly fries and sides
This is located inside the Lakeside Splash water area, so it draws families who are already there. If you're not planning to do the water area, you may walk past it. It's worth the detour — the smoked meats are the most distinct food option in the park.
Uncle John's Grill
A smaller counter located just outside Lakeside Splash:
- Teriyaki chicken kebobs
- Loaded grilled corn
The loaded corn is a solid midday snack and moves faster than the full restaurants. Good for people who want something light without committing to a full meal.
Snacks and Treats
Sugar Plum Café (Main Plaza)
The standout item here is the Garlic Funnel Cake — a traditional funnel cake with powdered sugar and buttery garlic confit. It sounds like a mistake. It isn't. The combination of sweet dough and garlic is a Gilroy thing, and this is the purest expression of it in the park. Get it once even if you're skeptical.
Also serves:
- Fresh-baked treats
- Coffee drinks
Location in the Main Plaza means it's the most convenient grab-and-go option when you're between rides.
Sweet Station
Next to the Banana Split ride:
- Soft-serve ice cream
- Tropical floats
The location near the ride means it's easy to grab something cold after a ride. Ice cream demand peaks in the early afternoon heat — get here before 1pm or after 3pm.
Seasonal Food Events
Cherry Jubilee (June 5 – July 5, 2026) is the park's signature food event and won the IAAPA Brass Ring Award for Best New Food & Beverage Event in 2025. The Very Cherry Tasting Card gives you six samples from 50+ cherry-infused items spread across park restaurants and carts. The menu includes everything from a Gourmet Kickin' Cherry BBQ Burger and Cherry Balsamic Chicken Sandwich to Cherry Funnel Cake and Cherry Ice Cream. The tasting card is the right way to do Cherry Jubilee — it forces you to try things you wouldn't otherwise order and covers a lot of the park's geography in the process.
North Pole Nights (late November – December 31) and Carnival Nights (mid-August – early September) both bring specialty food and drink menus. Expect hot chocolate options, seasonal cocktails for adults, and themed desserts during these events.
Dining Tips
- Eat before noon. The 11am opening window is your best friend for short lines.
- San Juan Grill and The Wok have shorter lines than Castroville Corners throughout the day because of their locations.
- Allergies or dietary needs: ask at any counter for ingredient information. The staff are generally knowledgeable. For complex needs, call Guest Services at 408-840-7100 in advance.
- Outside food: Gilroy Gardens permits guests to bring in outside food and non-alcoholic beverages for consumption in the picnic area outside the main gate. No outside food is permitted inside the park. This is a useful option for families with strict dietary requirements or budget constraints.
- Water fountains are available throughout the park at no cost.
