Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Accessibility Guide: Wheelchair, DAS, and What to Know

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom has invested in accessibility infrastructure across the park, and for guests with mobility or other disabilities, it is one of the more navigable parks in Northern California. The primary accommodation for guests who cannot wait in standard queues is the Attraction Accessibility Program (AAP). Here is a full breakdown of what is available.

The Attraction Accessibility Program (AAP)

The AAP is Six Flags Discovery Kingdom's equivalent of what other parks call a Disability Access Service or DAS program. It is designed for guests who, due to a disability or medical condition, are unable to wait in a standard queue environment. This includes physical disabilities, cognitive disabilities, sensory processing differences, chronic pain conditions, and other qualifying situations.

How to get AAP:

Six Flags partners with IBCCES (International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards) for pre-registration. Guests can register their disability documentation with IBCCES before their park visit at accessibilitycard.org. Six Flags accepts proof of IBCCES registration as sufficient documentation to issue an AAP, which streamlines the process at Guest Services on arrival day.

Without pre-registration, guests can still visit Guest Services at the main entrance when they arrive and request an AAP. Documentation requirements may vary — having any relevant medical documentation available is helpful, though the park does not always require it.

How AAP works at rides:

Guests with an AAP are generally directed to alternate entrances at ride exits rather than the main queue. At most attractions, this alternate entrance is marked with the universal wheelchair symbol. The AAP allows the guest and a set number of accompanying guests (typically up to three, depending on the park's current policy) to use the alternate entrance.

Wheelchair and ECV Access

Guests may use their own manual wheelchair or ECV (electric convenience vehicle) throughout the park. The park's pathways are paved and generally flat, making wheelchair navigation manageable. A few area transitions have inclines — the park team can assist with route alternatives.

Wheelchair rentals are available near the main entrance on a first-come, first-served basis. ECV rentals are also available in limited quantities. If an ECV rental is essential to your visit, call the park in advance to confirm availability; ECV rentals can run out on high-attendance days.

For guests using a rented wheelchair or ECV who need to take it outside the park for any reason (returning to a car, for instance), a Team Member escort is required. Battery recharging for ECVs is available at Guest Relations.

Ride Accessibility

Many of the park's queues are accessible to guests in manual wheelchairs and some will accommodate power chairs, though power chairs may require transfer at the ride itself. The ADA guidelines document available through the park details specific transfer requirements for each attraction.

Key notes on specific rides:

Sensory Considerations

The park has not publicly marketed a dedicated sensory map, but guests with sensory sensitivities should be aware of:

Service Animals

Service animals are welcome throughout the park. Six Flags maintains designated service animal relief areas — ask Guest Services for the current locations. Service animals may not accompany guests on most rides due to safety requirements, but a designated waiting area is typically available near ride exits so the service animal can wait with a companion while the handler rides.

Dietary Accessibility

Guest Services can provide information on allergen and dietary options across the park's dining locations. Several food stands offer options for common allergies. For specific needs (severe allergies, tube feeding, etc.), Guest Services handles these situations individually and can accommodate accordingly.

Parking

ADA-designated accessible parking spaces are available in the main parking lot close to the entrance. These are standard ADA accessible spaces and require a valid accessible parking placard or license plate. There is no additional charge beyond the standard parking fee for these spaces.
