Who should choose Cedar Point?

Cedar Point is the destination park — you're making a trip of it, not a quick jaunt. If a giga-coaster lineup that includes Millennium Force, Top Thrill 2, and the RMC masterpiece Steel Vengeance is your goal, nothing else compares. The park's peninsula setting on Lake Erie, its legacy of record-breaking rides, and the on-site resort hotels make it a full-weekend destination.

Plan for 2 days minimum. Buy Fast Lane Plus for summer visits — without it you'll spend half the day in line for Steel Vengeance and Maverick. The lakefront views from the back of the park are genuinely beautiful, especially at sunset.

Who should choose Kings Dominion?

Kings Dominion makes sense if you're in the DC, Richmond, or northern Virginia area and want a legitimate top-10 thrill park without the drive. Intimidator 305 is the steepest, most intense giga-coaster in North America — a full gray-out machine that many hardcore enthusiasts rank above Millennium Force. Twisted Timbers (RMC hybrid) adds a Steel Vengeance-style experience at a fraction of the wait.

Summer weekday crowds at Kings Dominion are much lighter than Cedar Point, making it easier to hit every major coaster in a single day. If you're a DC-area local, KD with a season pass is exceptional value. The waterpark (Soak City) is included, which Cedar Point's Soak City charges extra for.

Frequently asked questions

Which park has better coasters?+

Cedar Point has more coasters (17 vs 13) and holds more world records, but Kings Dominion's Intimidator 305 is one of the most intense rides on Earth and gives Cedar Point's Millennium Force a real run.

Is Kings Dominion worth it if I've been to Cedar Point?+

Absolutely — Intimidator 305 and Twisted Timbers are experiences you can't get at Cedar Point, and the park is far less crowded, making it a refreshing contrast.

Which park is easier to get to?+

Depends where you're coming from. Kings Dominion is 90 minutes from DC and Richmond; Cedar Point requires a drive to northern Ohio and is best as a destination trip.

Do both parks share a season pass?+

As Cedar Fair properties (now part of Cedar Fair-Six Flags merger), both parks are included on the chain's all-park pass.
