The History of Wild Mouse at Cedar Point

The History of Wild Mouse

Wild Mouse revives one of the oldest coaster ideas and gives it a modern twist. Its little cars spin freely as they dart through the hairpin turns, so no two trips are quite the same. It opened in 2023 as the centerpiece of Cedar Point's new Boardwalk.

A new spin on an old idea

The wild mouse is a classic coaster type from the 1950s and 60s, a compact ride of tight, flat hairpin turns taken at speed. For 2023 the Italian manufacturer Zamperla built Cedar Point a modern version, its very first of a new design, that keeps the vintage wild mouse look but adds free-spinning cars. The cars rotate on their own based on how the riders are seated, so the spins are different every time. It became Cedar Point's eighteenth roller coaster and kicked off an unusual run of three straight years with a new coaster.

Life on the Boardwalk

Wild Mouse anchors The Boardwalk, a reimagined lakefront district themed to an old seaside promenade, and it was built as a ride the whole family could share, with a low height requirement so children and adults could take a first coaster together. The theme is playful. Of its seven cars, six are dressed as mice and one as a wedge of cheese, all in bright yellow and orange.

One thing to know

The cheese car is not just a joke. It is the ride's accessible vehicle, themed to match the mouse-and-cheese design so it fits right in with the rest of the train.

Wild Mouse is one chapter in the history of Cedar Point.
