The History of Apple Zapple at Kings Dominion

The History of Apple Zapple

Apple Zapple is a wild mouse, the kind of coaster built around flat hairpin turns that throw you toward the edge of your seat, then a set of quick, steep drops. It has been running at Kings Dominion since 2002, though it started life under a different name.

Ricochet

The ride opened in 2002 as Ricochet, a Mack Rides wild mouse in what was then a Nickelodeon-themed corner of the park. Its layout is classic wild mouse: a slow climb, then a series of flat hairpin turns taken just fast enough to feel like the car might tip, followed by a pair of sharp drops.

An apple by another name

In 2018, as the park reworked the surrounding Candy Apple Grove area around the new Twisted Timbers coaster, Ricochet was renamed Apple Zapple to fit the orchard theme. The ride itself did not change, only its name and colors.

One thing to know

It ran as Ricochet for sixteen years before being renamed Apple Zapple in 2018 to fit the Candy Apple Grove theme.

Apple Zapple is one chapter in the fifty-year history of Kings Dominion.
